BUFFY KING

BUFFY KING (Drama & Stagecraft Instructor/English Language & Comprehension Tutor) - Buffy King works professionally as a Production Stage Manager in the tri-state area, having run shows in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. She has lent her production skills to original scripts with the prestigious LAByrinth Theatre Company and its most noted members, Academy Award winners John Patrick Shanley and Philip Seymour Hoffman. For two seasons, she co-produced and managed the historical theatre program at the Ellis Island Museum of American Immigration. Other credits include the educational Write on the Edge play writing program at Manhattan Theatre ClubLincoln Center's American Living Room Festival, the NYC Fringe Festival, the Jean Cocteau Repertory, and SoHo Think Tank's Ice Factory Festival 2007. During her theatrical education at Brooklyn College, Buffy specialized in stage management and directing, while also participating in master classes in acting and voice taught by Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus) and Jimmy Smitts (NYPD Blue), among others. Buffy is a college graduate with degrees in both Theatrical Production from Brooklyn College and English Literature and Language from Ellis University. Her teaching repertory includes acting, improvisation, stagecraft, stage combat and playwriting, among others. In 2001, she was presented an award for outstanding contribution to theatre by the faculty of the Brooklyn College Theatre Department and actor Dominic Chianese (The Sopranos). Buffy is proud to be a founding member of both The Cathartic Movement and PaperCup Productions Theatre Company. Before founding the CLASS ACT school of drama, Buffy was a faculty member of Acting Out! Drama & Voice from 2007 to 2009 and taught various dramatic arts classes in both Brooklyn and Staten Island. She also served as head of the ’07-’08 after-school Drama Program for the Federation of Italian-American Organizations in Brooklyn, NY. In the Fall of 2007, Buffy was a guest instructor for Dreamstreet, a theatre company comprised of developmentally disabled performers. An active member of the Actor's Equity and Stage Manager's Associations, Buffy works in both musical and non-musical theatre off-Broadway and for children's theatre. She has contributed her skills as a playwright to five full-length scripts and has produced and directed her own work on stage in NYC at the Independent Theatre and for a short film.
